Fire, a new original piano cycle inspired by cyclical Chinese philosophy, traces the awakening of life as it begins to take form and expands outward and beyond.
If Emergence, explored transformation through the human story, Fire widens the lens, exploring the forces that shape both the world around us and the lives within it as the story moves beyond the human narrative. While rooted in the classical tradition, Fire draws on Chinese philosophical thought and traces the awakening of life as it takes form, presenting a contemporary perspective centered on continual change and dynamic balance. Turning toward universal forces, Fire explores the emergence of love and light within both humanity and the wider cosmos.
Beginning in stillness with Nocturne in C Minor, Fire follows the cycle of love and light through The Dragon Waltz, The Phoenix Waltz, and Fantasia in A Minor.
Nocturne in C Minor — where light appears
The Dragon Waltz — dawn of light
The Phoenix Waltz — love reborn
Fantasia in A Minor — light beyond
Fantasia in A Minor (Piano & Violin — boundless love
Fire is one of the oldest symbols shared across cultures. It can represent warmth and creation, but also transformation, renewal, and the energy that drives change. Unlike water, which adapts through flow, fire transforms through action. It illuminates, reshapes, and leaves behind something different from what existed before.
One aspect of the Chinese character 火 (huǒ) that fascinates me is how, in its modern form, it can almost be read as a human figure surrounded by rising energy. Whether viewed as a pictograph of flame or as a symbolic image of transformation, it reflects a central idea of this project: that change is both fundamental and deeply human.
Through recurring musical gestures of momentum, release, and rest, the cycle explores the forces that shape becoming—how energy emerges, transforms, and returns in new forms, e.g. trills and scalar motifs resolving into lulling motifs.
All five works of Fire have now received one or more Pandora editorials. Thank you, Pandora AMP!
This page will continue to evolve as the project unfolds.

Nocturne in C Minor
Fading
Fade far away
Weary with fever and fret
Winnowing wind takes us by regret
What we cannot see, we reimagine
What we cannot feel, we dare to fathom
Dare to love, dare to feel—
Happiness, beauty,
beyond our dreams…

Fantasia in A Minor — Piano & Violin
rain.
soft mist
warm droplets fall
tingling down my face
memories of you
ripples through
pools of
love
pours into
depths of the
sea
sun.
we are holding hands
hushed voices
laughing
basking in the sun
drunk with
the liqueur of happiness
life's battles having been won
by the empty wayside
burdens we long had carried
suddenly free
we alighted
heaven-bound
we no longer tarried

a stolen kiss
a moon's embrace
a timeless moment
a love-filled space
silhouettes merge
shadows entwine
in the harvest moon
secrets align..
in the full moon's
luminous sphere
lovers dance
their hearts sincere
a union written
in the lunar tune
hearts as one
in the fire-filled moon..
